Map Turtles  ( Graptemys Geographica )

There are 13 sub-species........

Mississippi map turtle.   Barbour's map turtle.   Cagles map turtle.   Escambia map turtle.   Yellow blotched map turtle.

Northern map turtle.   Pascagoula map turtle.   Black-knobbed (or ridged) map turtle.   Ringed map turtle.   Ouachita map turtle.

The carapace has a keel that runs the full length and the markings resemble map-like contours.

Map Turtles are a good beginners turtle, when young they can be a bit timid and like places to hide,

they easily mix with other turtles and like deep water.

Males can grow to around 3.5"- 5.5" long and females around 6"- 10.5" long.


Enclosure

                    A good internal/external filter pump.

                   A submersible heater with heater guard.

                   Basking area with floodlight.

                   UV-B lighting (repti-sun 5.0 or 10.0 flourescent).

Temps

                 Water temperature.............mid 70's.

                 Basking temperature..........86-92 degrees.

                 Air temperature..................82-86 degrees.

Feeding


                 Juveniles will eat bloodworms.

                 Adults will eat reptomin sticks, earthworms, mealworms, romaine/endive lettuce,  water lettuce, prawn, shrimp, krill.

                 Juveniles once daily,  adults  2-3 times weekly.

                 A varied diet is essential.
