Painted Turtles ( Chrysamys Picta )
There are four sub-species........Eastern, Southern, Midland and Western Painted turtle.
The skin and carapace edge scutes have a beautiful red and yellow design.
Painted turtles are extremely hardy and easy to keep for beginners.
They can become very tame and love swimming and basking.
Males will grow to around 4-6" long and females to around 6-8" long.
Deep water is a must for adults.
Enclosure
A good internal/external filter pump.
A submersible heater with heater guard.
Basking area with floodlight.
UV-B lighting (repti-sun 5.0 or 10.0 flourescent).
Temperatures
Water Temperature................mid 70's.
Basking Temperature.............88-92 degrees.
Air Temperature.....................82-86 degrees.
Feeding
Juveniles...........Bloodworms.
Adults................Reptomin sticks, cichlid sticks, shrimp, prawn, duckweed, water lettuce, endive/romainelettuce,
mealworms.
Juveniles once daily (do not overfeed).
Adults 2-3 times weekly.
Dont forget to vary the diet.
